The Amos Scripture care Trust was established
as a charitable trust in 1995. I am one of four trustees.
Work had begun in a small way some two years before. Our
first breakthrough being Spring 1995 when we were requested
to produce 8000 cards for the Edinburgh Diocese of the
Scottish Episcopal Church for their Autumn Mission.
The project arose from concern about the
lack of knowledge in our present-day society of the word of
God (made known to us in the Bible) as witnessed by the the
decline in Church on Sunday school attendance, also the lack
of religious education in schools. The aim of the Trust is
to nurture the Christian faith by encouraging people to
spread the word of God, trusting in the work of only spirit
in this endeavour. We are reminded of the verse in Amos
chapter 8 verse 11. "The days are coming,"
declares the Sovereign Lord, " when I will send a
famine through the land-not a famine of food or a thirst for
water, but a famine of hearing the work of the Lord."
We aim to assist in this task by producing
credit side cards, which can be easily carried in the purse
or wallet. On one side is a selected verse of Scripture
taken from the King James version of the Bible, New
International Version, or the Good News Bible. On the
reverse side is a suitable photograph, many of which are
obtained from members of various Church congregations. The
cards have the advantage of being laminated for durability.
Volunteer teams, some of whom are disabled
and have had mental illness problems, produce them.
Production is by a combination of modern technology and
individual workmanship. Teams work from St. George's West
Church, also Kinross and Jedburgh. There is no cost levied
on the cards. We have so far covered the cost of production
by donation when orders are submitted. Cards have been
successfully used in hospitals, churches and schools,
Christian guest houses-to name but a few outlets. They have
found their way all over the world. Africa, India, Russia,
Brazil has cards produced in their native language.
Customised cards can be readily produced at no extra cost,
the Scripture and picture chosen by the outlet.
I have found my work with the Trust
rewarding and it has added dimension to my daily study of
the Bible. It has also given me the privilege of meeting
Christians from other denominations.
