Amos Teams by Elinor Jones

Being part of a team means being united in a common cause. Amos Teams members have something special, they have a sense of belonging, not only to something of interest, but to something that they consider worthwhile i.e. making God's word accessible through the cards. It has been said that, 'The whole is greater than the sum of the parts', and that is most certainly true of existing teams whose members meet weekly to produce the cards, for they also support one another in a variety of ways as they work and chat together.

As you know, we in the Amos Scripture Care Trust hope to set up a number of new teams throughout the country. Each team usually consists of about four to five people who are prepared to meet weekly to cut and laminate the cards. Some team members who have their 'ears to the ground' are able to generate new orders in their local areas and this is very much at the heart of the Trust's vision.

We have recently taken an interesting turn in the development of our team-work. A newly formed team of volunteers is exploring the wider use of our Amos cards. This team identifies specific needs in terms of what might be useful to certain groups of people, thus meeting diverse needs and creating new outlets for the cards. The team has a graphic designer who is able to produce appropriate images for the cards as needs are identified. Also on board are volunteers with communication and publicity skills. The team has a good measure of autonomy and is not afraid to come up with new and eye-catching ideas.

Comments from Team members

Being part of an Amos production team is a really enjoyable experience, which I greatly look forward to each week. There is such a good team spirit, with everyone having a laugh whilst getting on with the production work. I always leave in a joyful mood after the work session.
The work also helps strengthen my faith, as we are working so closely with God. Using words from the Bible for the cards is very uplifting, and knowing that these words help others in need makes the work even more rewarding.

Joining an Amos production team has let me meet such lovely people, and find something I really enjoy.

Our production occurs in Lynsay's House every Tuesday afternoon, where Nesta, Lynsay, Cathy and I meet together. Equipped with printouts delivered from Edinburgh, trimmers and a laminator, the team assemble the cards.

We operate very much as a team, trying always to respect each other's abilities, without anyone taking the role of leader.

Kinross team is in quite a unique position of having members with such a wide variety of capabilities, whether these be in time, physical ability, skills or pooling of ideas. It is amazing what can be achieved by joining people's talents together for a common purpose! With cards going out to places like Namibia and Zambia, we are really fulfilling the phrase "THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL " and in this practical way carrying out what Jesus told us to do, in Christ's name.
