The Trust was established in 1995 when the trustees saw an opportunity of spreading the
Word of God in a modern and innovative way. Why Amos? The Prophet speaks of our
"Sovereign Lord bringing famine to all your cities, but you did not come back to
me". One interpretation of this might be the spiritual and religious famine now
overtaking our society, and we are not engaging God's help in responding. Why 'Scripture
Care'? The scriptures have a word for every human situation or predicament, happy or sad,
inspired or dejected. "When the Sovereign Lord speaks, who can avoid proclaiming His
message? "There is a spiritual hunger in our nation, perhaps not readily admitted or
articulated, and making the scriptures available through the medium of the cards is our
way of supporting the work and mission of the churches.
The cards are designed and printed at St Georges West Church, Edinburgh;
laminated and produced in quantity by four volunteer teams. This model has been very
successful and those involved are very enthusiastic. The trustees feel there is great
scope for extending the work of the Trust across other parts of Scotland but there is a
limit to expansion while the project is run entirely by volunteers, however willing and
committed.
Our vision for the future is to have teams of volunteers throughout Scotland working
with their local churches. To achieve this we plan to appoint a Mission
Co-ordinator. This
will be a full time post and we will need to raise £60,000 to fund salary and travelling
expenses for three years. It is hoped that the Trust will continue to be based in St
George's West, benefiting from a close association with the congregation, while supporting
the mission and ministry of the churches as we move towards the new millennium.
