Fraser, a native of the North East of Scotland, is a
widely respected senior figure within the church in
Scotland and around the world for his commitment to
the ministry of the whole people of God and to the
ecumenical movement.
Ian began his ministry as a manual worker in industry before taking up the post of General Secretary of the Student Christian Movement. His parish ministry in Rosyth gave Ian the opportunity to put his ideas into practice enabling members of the congregation and local community to engage in the life, worship and theology of the church. With Margaret, his wife, Ian became the first Warden of Scottish Churches House, Dunblane, before taking up a post with the World Council of Churches in Geneva. Ian's work in the Participating in Change programme saw Ian and Margaret travel extensively to see the church at local level worldwide. In the 1980's the experience and expertise gained at the WCC led to Ian's next appointment as Dean of the Centre of Training in Mission at Selly Oak Colleges in Birmingham. In retirement Ian and Margaret devoted themselves to work with Basic Christian Communities around the world documenting their vital contribution to the understanding of the Christian faith today. Ian is a member of the Iona Community Biographical notes by the Rev Peter Macdonald |
